Less is More Challenge

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

I discovered a new challenge blog this week. It's called Less is More. The challenge this week is a sketch. They're calling this size card Double Length, so the card should have a height that is Double the Length of the width. My finished size is 7 x 3 1/2. Now I just need to make an envelope to fit.

The image is a sweet new release from Lockhart Stamp Company and is colored with Prismacolor pencils. More on Lockhart Stamps and Karen Lockhart in another post.

Supplies:
Stamps: Lockhart Stamp Company
Paper: A Muse & Neenah Classic Solar White
Ink: Memento Black
Accessories: Spellbinders & Ribbon

Sweet 16 - An Invitation

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

Hi Friends,

It's rare I post to my blog a project that's not a "challenge" of some sort, but today I wanted to share the invitation I made for my oldest daughter's 16th birthday. The party was a Sweet 16/Chocolate Making Party!

I printed the party details on the back of the chocolae tag. I discoverd Memory Box cardstock at my local stamp store. I had no idea Memory Box had cardstock. This cardstock is a smooth white on the back and the perfect weight for a card base. I prefer the look of white on the inside of a card.

Supplies:
Stamps: Sentiment from Impression Obsession
Paper: Memory Box
Ink: Memento Rich Cocoa
Accessories: Glassine mini bag, Martha Swewart Doilies, Tulle, Ribbon, Tsukineko Shimmer Spritz in Frost, and Tim Holtz large Shipping Tag Diecut

Happy Spring,

Cheryl

Just Hatched...

Monday, March 28, 2011

Hi, I'm glad you stopped by. Today's card is for the OLW46 Challenge(One-Layer Wednesday) on Susan Raihala's Blog. The One-Layer Wednesday challenge is to use an egg or eggs on your one-layer card. If you're not the Easter basket type, Susan suggested using eggs in a nest...or an egg in a cup, an egg and a chicken, an egg-head cartoon, a good egg, whatever.

As soon as I saw the challenge, I new exactly what I wanted to do! My oldest daughter, now 16, insisted for years that she was hatched. We still don't know where she got that idea! It's one of those silly things that I've always remembered and to this day, it still makes me smile.

This card is 3" square. It's the perfect size to slip into the girls backpacks or even my husband's day planner. I call them my little Love Notes.

Supplies:
Stamps: Sentiment from Savvy Stamps & Image from Michael's Dollar Bin
Paper: Stampin'Up Whisper White
Ink: Memento
Accessories: Copics, Ruler & Black Marker

Happy Spring!

Fun with Felt

Thursday, March 10, 2011

Hi Friends,

Today's Ways to Use it challenge on SplitcoastStamper's is a FELT challenge. I've always loved felt and these days it's so easy to diecut a cute shape and use it on a card, scrapbook page or even a tag! Today, I'm having fun with tags.
My bird tag is spritzed with walnut ink. I misted the doily with Tattered Angles Glimmer Mist. You really can't tell in this picture.

For the birthday tag, I diecut chipboard leaves and painted them with Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint. This was the first time I opened my crackle paint, how sad. I really need to play with this paint more. I love the texture.

As I was cleaning up my work table, I found this pink felt rolled rose I made last week. I just had to make one more tag. The diecut used is from My Favorite Things.

Supplies:
Stamps: Bird~Inkadinkado and Happy Birthday~Stampabilites
Paper: Kraft (Archivers) and a standard Shipping Tag
Ink: Memento Rich Cocoa
Accessories: Stamp Positioner, Tattered Angles Glimmer Mist (Patina & Old Lace), Lace, Tulle, Buttons, Felt, Dew Drops, Doily, Cuttlebug, Pearl Floral Stems and Tim Holtz Shabby Shutters Distress Crackle Paint

Technique Lover's Challenge

Monday, March 7, 2011

Hi friends,

Happy Monday! Today's Technique Lover's Challenge on SplitcoastStamper's is a fun one. The challenge is to make an odd shaped card (anything but A2, square or rectangle). I've been experimenting with some different shapes using my Spellbinders, so I was very excited to play today.

The template for the birdhouse is not mine. I found it late one night browsing the internet. I know I wrote down the gal's blog address so I could reference back to it. Of course, now that I need it, I can't find it! If anyone recognizes this template, please let know. I would love to give her credit for her adorable pattern. I did make a slight adjustment to the roof. The floral roof piece is about a half an inch wider than the original pattern.

The flowers were punched, scrunched, and misted with water.

Supplies:
Stamps: Sentiment from Hero Arts Clear Stamps
Paper: Basic Grey, My Mind's Eye and Fancy Pants Designs
Ink: Memento Tangelo
Accessories: Stampin'Up Bird and small circle punches, All Night Media (old) flower punchs, Piercing tool, brads, stamp positioner

Thanks for stopping by. Have a wonderful week.

One-Layer Wednesday 43 ~ Shimmer, Not Glitter or Bling

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

It's so nice to be stamping and blogging again!  Why can't there be more hours in a day?

This week's One-Layer Wednesday Challenge on Susan Raihala's Blog, Simplicity is to use Shimmer NOT glitter or bling on your card. There are lots of ways to add shimmer. Some of Susan's suggestions were Sakura Stardust pens, Twinkling H2Os, pigment powders, Brilliance iridescent inks or shimmery cardstock,  just to name a few.

I've been wanting to try some different card shapes.  There are so many possibilities, and so little time!  To create this fun shape I used Spellbinders Label Eight.  To add shimmer, I used Twinkling H20's to make an oval in the center of  the card (with the help of my oval Nestibilities), and then stamped the image.  Who would have thought you could use Nestibilities/Spellbinders for so many things?

This is my second card.  I'm not sure which I like better.

There really is a pretty shimmer to each card, however I don't thnk it comes through in the pictures.

Supplies:
Stamps: Stampendous Cling Rubber for main image and  Recollections for the flourish
Paper: Canson 90LB Water Color Paper
Ink: Memento Rich Cocoa and Versa Magic Tea Leaves
Accessories: Spellbinders, paintbrush

Thanks for stopping by,
Cheryl
